VGA Annual Onion Group Buy & Growing Class

Each year, the Tooele Valley Gardening Association (TVGA) organizes a community bulk purchase of onion plants from Dixondale Farms, widely considered the most trusted onion grower in the United States. By combining orders into a single large TVGA group purchase, gardeners receive high-quality onion plants at a lower cost than they could typically obtain in small quantities.

This annual program makes it easy for local gardeners to “jumpstart” the season with healthy intermediate and long-day onion plants suited to our region. Participants can browse the Dixondale catalog, select varieties, and place their orders through TVGA to take advantage of group pricing.

To help gardeners get the best results, TVGA also hosts an Onion Growing Class presented by Bruce Frasier, Owner of Dixondale Farms. The class covers topics such as onion day lengths, choosing the right varieties for our latitude, soil preparation, irrigation, fertilization, weed and pest control, cultivation, and harvesting. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn proven techniques for growing larger, healthier onions in our area.
